Prepare the Mare &Stallion For Early Breeding

  • Breeding season depends on many things
  • Break it down into getting new stallions introduced into the breeding routine.
  • Experienced stallions just need a refresher course.

Prepare the Mare &Stallion For Early Breeding

  • It is important to remember the basic health of the stallion
  • Collect the stallion's semen and evaluate it.
  • Keep your mare and stallion healthy both in terms of general conditioning and reproduvtively, vacinated.
  • Cycling before she is to be bred.

When The mare should be mated to the stallion

  • Decide when you want the foal to arrive
  • Pregancies last 11 months so when you want the foal to be born depends on when you breed the mare.
  • If you want a racing foal, you will want to breed your mare in Febuary or March, because you will want an early foal.

WHEN THE MARE SHOULD BE MATED TO THE STALLION

  • If you are not under pressure, late May through mid- July would be the best idea.
  • Herd stallions are seldom interested in mating with their own female offspring and seldom to tolerate those females mating with other stallions
  • It is often necessary for both male females and males to leave the herd after leaving sexual maturity.

Challenges in horse breeding

  • Financial- land, stables, equipment, feed and horses.
  • physical
  • emotional
  • lots of work
  • long term
