INFO ON START OF TV HISTORY

  • Willoughby Smith discovered the photoconductivity of the element selenium in 1873.
  • (Selenium is a chemical element with symbol Se and atomic number 34. It is a nonmetal with properties that are intermediate.)
  • Television became available in crude experimental forms in the late 1920s.

THE NIPKOW DISK

  • The Nipkow disk. This schematic shows the circular paths traced by the holes that may also be square for greater precision. The area of the disk outlined in black shows the region scanned.

TV BEFORE AND AFTER

  • It's started off as a huge box then to a flatscreen tv.
  • High definition television (HDTV) was introduced making watch quality very good with graphics and sound when back then there was no color and sound wasn't very clearly audible.
  • Now there's wifi connectivity and touch screen tvs.
  • Each year tvs are getting more bigger and more expensive.

5 FEATURES OF OLD TV

  • There was no DVD players to watch certain movies.
  • Audio was made by using Thomas Edison's cylinder phonograph.
  • There weren't many commercial ads but mainly shows.
  • Channel selection would be from the main tv box.
  • The screen was made of fibreglass and was very very hard to break.

5 FEATURES OF NEW TV

  • There's DVD players now for the new tvs as well as USB ports to watch movies on usbs.
  • Built in speakers and adapters could be used to connect to external sub buffer speakers.
  • There's a lot of commercials not just movie ads but also business and restaurant ads.
  • Remotes are now available and are being used not just by a physical remote but also one on the many types of smartphones.
  • The screen is now glass and can be broken very easily and now there's touch screen tvs available.
