PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The South China Sea is a body of water right off the coast of Vietnam. It is 1.351 million square miles, and home to many small islands.
China was interested in the sea's islands. They own territory in the Spratly islands, Paracel islands, and Scarborough Shoal.
The United States is interested in claiming territory in the sea, but China wants us to stay away.
Other countries that own territory in the sea are Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei.
Imperialism of the South China Sea is different from the imperialism of Southeast Asia, because Southeast Asia was imperialized by big world powers. The islands in the South China Sea were imperialized by smaller countries like Vietnam and Malaysia.
