What makes a course engaging?

How important is it?
Interactivity makes a course engaging. In order to be engaged, a learner must feel like they have a stake or are invested in the material. engagement requires thought and preparatio to produce inviting writing, design, and an thought as to how it wil be delivered. A motivating learner experience will result in you’ll get higher completion rates, a better understanding of your topics, and an increased likelihood of objectives being met.

How does the designer’s skill help a course flow together?

A skilled designer will be most likely to prepare a course that reaches it's goals. They are best able to consider the needs of the learner when planning content, format, objectives and structure. They are also more likely to gather and analyze feedback in order to make adjustments to the course to best meet the needs. A skilled course designer is crucial to the success of the course

What have you learned?

This course had quite a few objectives. My learning was focused on Applying theory and principles of learning and instructional design to the development of modules and courses for implementation in my workplace.
Using the case study approach to design an e-learning module helped me address the needs of my target population, which was the teachers on the campuses that I serve. This really helped me narrow down the content, the assessment and the delivery method.

The process of peer review in this course helped me expand on my interpretation of the expectations and possibilities.
I also think that refection is an underutilitized tool. Reflection sparks growth. I learned that it is important to go back and relect in order to make improvements.

What do you need to practice?

I definitely need to practice on a variety of LMS options. I tend to focus on what I have in my district because I typically plan to use what I create. However, as a current digital learning specialist, it is important to expand my tool box of resources. I may not always have the same tools and knowing how to work in a variety of Learning management systems helps make me more marketable.

I also need to work on creativity. I tend to be very straightforward when presenting information. While that can be great, I can bump up the engagement in my course if it can be cuter or more creative ways to get my point across.
