A summary of the first par of the short story, "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. This short story is great for a classroom of young adults and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The area that they are treading through is pitch dark and lurks with the rumor of being a godforsaken place. But of course that doesn't scare Rainsford.
Whitney decides to go to bed but Rainsford chooses to stay out a bit longer. He hears gunshots in the distance, but as soon as he tries to get a better look, he looses his balance and plunges in the water.
He comes up only to see the boat speeding away without him. He decided to swim in the direction of the gunshots and soon makes it to shore. But he finds something peculiar.
He sees these twenty two cartridges all over the place. There must be a big animal in this area that would make someone have to use a twenty two cartridge. But all that matters to Rainsford right now if food and safety.
The man soon apologizes and introduces himself as General Zaroff. He says he is a hunter like Rainsford and is impressed by Rainsford's work. But Zaroff may not be as friendly as he seems.
Zaroff explains on how he has always had a love for hunting but has gotten tired of hunting just simple animal such as tigers or lions. He prefers an animal that brings him more excitement. Human.
Soon Rainsford starts to get sick of thinking of this and heads off to bed. Only of course to have pre-set plans of hunting with Zaroff in the morning. But if the animal of the hunt in this area is human, how long will Rainsford have before he is the one getting hunted.
