What is the goal? (learning goal)

  • connecting a simple single-string guitar tab to guitar sheet music
  • reading notation

How are we going to do it?

  • The lesson starts by activating what students already know (tab) and preparing them for learning
  • we then move into scaffolded notation exercises

How do students know the goal?

  • Right after we've warmed up and reviewed, we talk about the goal of the day & why it's important

How do we know we go it? (success criteria)

  • When we can play the intro using the sheet music and identifying the notes accurately

My new learning

  • Through creating my lesson, I realize that everything that I do is naturally very scaffolded. I like to start basic and work my way up. This means that even when I work on a co-constructed success criteria, I like it to be gradual and ongoing with the students. I do this by adding on and asking questions like "now, do you think we can...?". This progresson makes the goalposts feel less intimidating and more like bonus challenges. It may not be explicit, but it accomplishes the same goal.
