My Thesis

  • Media stereotyping should be regulated more strictly because the public usually forms opinions based upon inaccurate information from the media. Claims and opinions of the media can be detrimental to the integrity of the community targeted, also claims made by the media can portray a bad image of the whole race being scrutinized.

My Reasoning for My Topic

  • I feel this topic is not known to the consciousness of most people.
  • This is a issue that is prevalent i today's society
  • I wanted to choose a topic that can be relavent to my own life.

What is Media Sterotyping

  • The unfair and often times inaccurate subjugation of a particular group of people or community.

Reasons for Media Stereotyping

  • The media is infatuated with ratings.
  • There is no regulation in place to monitor the actions of the media
  • The common viewer believes whatever the media tells them
  • Some stereotypes are engraved in society for generations

  • White Americans are more prevalent on television networks.
  • They are often most portrayed as being successful in contrast to minorities

  • I created an editorial to portray local black teens pursuing positive endeavors in the community.

  • " Perception is not based on words or imagery, but instead the actions of the individual"

My Conclusion

  • The behavior of the media in regards to stereotyping is unethical and unprecedented. The actions of the media can be detrimental to the integrity of the community targeted and helps further unjustified stigmas place on the groups/individuals targeted.
