In the book, Martin Eden, Jack London wrote a story that a young seaman becomes a famous writer. Because of his poverty, many people laugh at him, and does not value him so much. After he become a famous writer, although he become a rich man, there are many biases upon him.


Today I want to talk the question of “how did Jack London contribute to the discussion of social equality?”

-Why he is able to spread?
Jack London’s work often relate to the working class.
Irving Stone: “He was raised in poverty, he knew hunger and deprivation, he had learned harrowing lessons about the fate of the labouring man”.
Because of the childhood he has, he knows deeply about the huge differences between classes.

-Why he did a huge impact?
He writes a lot of literature, and he is one of the most popular writer all among the world at that time.
He is the first American writer that become a millionaire, which means tons of people read his works.
His books bring his idea of social equality to many readers’ hands.

-Why Jack London can make people accept his idea?
Jack London reveal a profound understanding and a great resilience of the working class to the people that never thinks about it, and leave a deep expression in their mind.
Because his plot and characters are so attractive, the idea of equality that he try to spread is also influenced people unconsciously.
