PRESENTATION OUTLINE
How does different styles of parenting affect childhood development?
Different styles of parenting have very different affects on children, whether it's their attitude, how they handle situations, or what type of relationships they have.
PERMISSIVE
- This type of parenting is the most "lenient" parent.
- This parent lets their child have unlimited power, which means they have power over them.
EFFECTS
- Unable to manage time habits
- Low achievements (such as in school or work)
- Make poor decisions
- More likely of an addiction to drugs or alcohol.
UNINVOLVED
- This type of parent is just as it sounds, they aren't there.
- They are always absent, whether it's they're always working, partying, or doing drugs.
- It's not that "they don't love their child" , it's that they don't have time to parent.
- This is also considered a neglectful parent.
EFFECTS
- Development of low self esteem
- Drug addiction
- Higher rates of mental disorders (such as depression and anxiety)
- Poor relationships
AUTHORITIAN
- This is the most strict type of parenting.
- They show no affection.
- They have little to no communication with their children.
- They set really high expectations.
EFFECTS
- Low self esteem due to no affection
- Develop a resentment of authority
- Social anxiety
- Less achievement in school
- Development of fear to failure.
AUTHORITATIVE
- This is shown to be the most effective style of parenting.
- The style is similar to authoritarian but authoritative parents are not as strict.
- They have rules but are lenient.
- They show love, they have good communication, have boundaries, and are not absent from their children's lives.
EFFECTS
- Good self esteem
- High achievement in school and work
- Very social
- Good relationships
This relates to the book "1981" because the parents are permissive, so the children are pretty much out of control. They are told to spy on their parents in fact, and they have unlimited freedom.
