• State of political and military tension between US and Soviet powers
• Called the "cold war" because there was no large-scale fighting

• Capitalism: people own everything. If you can afford it, you can own it.
• Communism: government in charge of everything. All is distributed evenly.

• Tried to stop communism from spreading to China
• Ignored by Russia because it already spread to Cuba
