A
A is for Amusement, for fun people go around driving trying to hit animals, they go to demolition parks. This shows just how mindless and unthinkable these people are, they do not care about life or anything.

B
B is for Burn, the government has the firefighters burn books because books can anger some people while making others happy. They wanted a world with no worries. Knowledge can have people feel dumb because other people are smarter, in this system everyone is equal because they all of the same knowledge.

C
C is for Clarisse, she is the reason Montag ever starts doubting everything he has worked for and worked toward. She is pure enough to know that the world wasn't what it seemed, that it really is a bad system. She is later hit by a car which shows that her knowledge or thoughts cannot survive in this system.

D
D is for Death, in this world death is no big deal. This shows that people are not entertained, they are distracted from worries in life and given only happy thoughts. These people don't care for life they don't care if somebody lives or dies.

E
E is for Emblem, the emblem of the Phoenix and the flaming salamander are symbols of firemen. The emblems symbolize the firemen and the fear that people get from them.

F
F is for Fear, this has kept people from acting upon being unhappy and try to kill themselves instead of doing what they think is right. Montag has fear but he stands up for what is right.

G
G is for Grille, the ventilator grille in Montag's apartment is his secret hiding place. He is afraid of what would happen if those books had ever been found. This shows that he knows what is coming, however he keeps the books to fill his desire to know things , no matter the price.

H
H is for Hound, the mechanical hound seems to be after Montag. Montag is afraid that someone knows that he has books because the hound only goes after a person once someone gives the DNA of the target to the hound.
