The Problem
Over the last few years, there has been a huge increase in the amount of litter left on the streets. We are brainstorming ways and ideas of how we can reduce littering and improve the environment. At our school most students play in places like the oval where there are few bins. Students can't be bothered to go to the playground or near Harefield to throw out their rubbish so they instead leave it on the floor.

PROPOSAL/OVERARCHING QUESTION

  • Our overarching question/s are: would it be beneficial for our community to have a nude food day?
  • Definition: A nude food day is a specific day of the week where we have to bring in only food that doesn't have a rubbish component in it. This means that students will not bring rubbish to school. Nude food days will happen every fortnight
  • Every 4 weeks there will be a "nude food casual clothes day" where you dress up in the colours of fruit and bring a gold coin.

Why We Chose Our Idea
In our school, there are currently around 1600 people. Each of those staff and students will have roughly a small bag full of rubbish a day. This means, every day the school is throwing out about 1600 bags of rubbish. If no rubbish was brought to school for one day, there would be significantly less litter. This would also allow the yard duty to keep on top of things. Many people in this school have already experienced what a nude food day is and we have hard evidence that it works. Nude food is a global activity that is now implemented in many schools. Why can't we have it in our's?

SOLUTION

  • Having a nude food day will significantly decrease the amount of litter. If there is no rubbish, you can't drop it.
  • By having casual clothes days with nude food we can provide the school with money for new bins. This will encourage students to throw out their rubbish as there is enough, spaced out bins.

According to the statistics, around 75 percent of all rubbish that is brought to school from students is made from plastic. As we know, most plastic items come in the form of food wrappers and disposable bottles. If we were to have a nude food day, then nearly all of the litter and rubbish we see will be drastically decreased.

Conclusion
Our school has the materials needed to create a nude food day. It would be greatly beneficial to our school. According to our fieldwork, the places with the most litter will be reduced as the litter is mostly made of plastic wrappers. In conclusion, having a nude food day will greatly improve the community and will reduce the amount of litter we see today.
