Theodosius

  • Was the last leader to rule over a unified Roman Empire. (West and East)-379-395;
  • After his death the empire was permanently divided

CLOVIS FACTS

  • Born 466 A.D.
  • First king of the franks.
  • Concurred most of the western and northern Roman Gual.

CHARLEMAGNE

  • He was a leader of the franks he tried to rebuild the Roman Empire.
  • He was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by the pope in 800 C.E.
  • He created the strongest government since Rome. He built schools and conquered what is today France and Germany. After he died in 814, his empire began to decline. In 843 his grandsons signed the Treaty of Verdun that divided up his empire.

CHARLES MARTEL

  • He was a military leader
  • He was born on 688 and died on 741
  • He was also a statesman
  • He got the title of the best king of franks in 737.

WHY CLOVIS WAS A GOOD LEADER

  • In 481-511 Clovis ruled as a strong military and political leader of the Franks. The franks become a prominent military and political power in Western Europe.
  • In 486 Clovis leaded the Frankish forces on a campaign that wiped out the crumbling Roma authority in Gual. He later brought other Germanic tribes near Gual under his control.

"BARBARIANS" THE FRANKS

  • The franks were a western Germanic tribal confederation, Living North and East of the Rhine River.
  • Raided Roman territories from the 3rd-5th centuries. Other Franks joins the Roman legions in Gual.
