How did Judaism start?

• Jewish history begins with the covenant established between God and Abraham around 1812 B.C.E. in the Middle East. Abraham is the father of the family of Jews. Moses is also an important figure because he gave the Jews the Torah around 1250 B.C.

WHAT ARE SOME MAIN BELIELFS?

• Jews believe that there is a single God who not only created the universe, but with whom every Jew can have a relationship.

WHAT PART OF THE WORLD DID JUDAISM ORIGINATE IN?

• Judaism originated in Israel around 4000 years ago.

What are some of the main symbols of Judaism and what do they relate to?

• Kippah (a cap that men where to cover there heads )
• Tallit (a prayer shawl)
• Star of David
• Menorah (a candle holder)
