PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ST. BENEDICT

ST.BENEDICT WAS BORN MARCH 2, 480 AD, IN NORCIA, ITALY.

HE GREW UP WITH ONE TWIN SISTER NAMED, SCHOLASTICA

St. Benedict was a monastic leader who abandoned his noble family and studies to seek life of solitude.

He left his city and went to a remote cave in Subiaco, were he lived as a hermit for three years under the guidance of a monk named Romanious

After his hermit years, he was asked to be the abbot of a near by monastery, but the monks’ resistance to his reforms led them to attempt to poison him.

Th poisoned goblet shattered when he blessed it, revealing their treachery.

St. Benedict instructed to treat all material goods as if they were sacred vessels of the altar. Emphasizing care, moderation, and reverence for God’s creation.

His most renowned monastery was at Monte Cassino, where he wrote the “Rule of Saint Benedict” for his monks

St. Benedict died in Abbey of Montecassiono, Italy, on march 21, 547 AD, at the age of sixty seven years old

ST. BENEDICT WAS BURIED NEXT TO HIS SISTER

St. Benedict was a good role model because he showed how to live with integrity, wisdom and holy freedom. He did not confirm to the world, nor expectations of the world, nor did he react with bitterness. He instead rooted his life in eternal truths of the faith and walked the path of holiness with grace, humility, and strength.
