Social media is taking over our world. Different places all over look a certain way just because of social media. The perfect backgrounds attract people to that specific place, which brings a lot of business. This shows that social media is making a big impact on the decisions we make.

INSTAGRAM IS changing the way

WE DESIGN places in our world
In the article, "How Instagram is changing the way we design cultural spaces" from Smithsonian.com, it explains how big of an influence social media has on us. Businesses have learned that people are attracted to places that would make a perfect place for an Instagram photo. By adding painted murals and making stunt food, which is food that is made for an Instagram photo, people are immediately drawn to that place. But, will this eventually make the whole world look the same?

The made-for-Instagram “experience.”

A lot of people believe that the best representation of Instagram is an entirely new cultural space that gives you the perfect Instagram experience. The article, gives an example of a very popular Instagram experience, The Museum of Ice Cream in California. It's a series of rooms that have Instagram ready sets. It is extremely popular. There have been over 93,000 posts with the hashtag #museumoficecream. A lot of people say that posting photos on Instagram allows you to experience those things twice. First, in real life, then when you post the pictures. But, is it better to experience the same thing twice?

does social media put you in a bubble?

There's also the question of if social media puts you in a bubble. The article says that you are influenced by everything you see on Instagram, so you do the same things that you see your friends doing. This is opposing the study of Jane Jacobs, she claimed that cities are supposed to draw different groups to that place. If social media is making the world look the same, then it is drawing a lot of the same people. So, people of different groups and interests can't experience new things. Is this keeping us in a bubble?

instagramization can bring good things and bad things

The article finishes by saying that although social media can take us away from real-life experiences, it is also a great way to document the amazing things that happen to us. But, we also crave amazing things that are happening in real life. I think that Social Media is a huge distraction from things that we can experience in front of us, but not on a screen. However, I also think it's important to document your experiences so that you can go back and remember them. But, are these made-for Instagram experiences "real life"? Social media is creating a lot of our experiences. In my opinion, that doesn't make them real. So, does that make Instagramization good or bad?
