PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HOW DO MICROWAVES HEAT UP OUR FOOD?

ALEXIS SISMAN,FARRIS MCKEY, AND KAITLYN JACOBS

Microwaves are longitudinal.

Microwaves are electromagnetic waves that, in a microwave, are produced by a device called a magnetron. A magnetron(the heart of the microwave) radiates the energy into the cooking cavity where it's absorbed by the food.

How else are microwaves used?
Microwaves have radar which is used for air-traffic control and vehicular speed-limit.
It is used for this because when an object is approaching the antenna, the radio waves are compressed and have a shorter wave lent and a higher frequency. By measuring this the speed of an object toward or away from the antenna can be determined.

DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WAVE

  • It can...
  • Zap food nutrition including nutrition in breast milk.
  • Create carcinogens in your food.
  • (On a screen) Cause cataracts in the eyes.

The wavelength of our EMR ranges from 1mm to 1m. Similar to the top of a sharpened pencil. Also, the frequency ranges from 300mhz-300ghz.

In 1939, percent spencer was standing In front of a radar set when he noticed a candy bar in his pocket melting, therefore, he started experimenting and developed the microwave.
