INDICATORS

For Grades 9-12

ONLINE ART GALLERIES

(#2) While reading a novel, like The Great Gatsby, students could create online art galleries demonstrating their understanding of the 1920s and how this period and its culture impacts the novel. This would be a visual and creative way to incorporate historical setting, which often seen as boring, into the study of the novel.

Resources for a Real-World Task

With efficiency and effectiveness
(#3) A digital tool that would be efficient in English class would be a tool that allowed students to have book clubs for independent reading. A blog would give a leader student or teacher the chance to start a discussion about the book and other students could comment on it with their thoughts.

Why or Why Not?

Can you relate to the main character?
Blogs allow book groups to happen even when class time may not allow.

Design a Website

(#7) Students can create a website on an author. This would allow them to work technologically on website design, as well as work to research different aspects of the author's life to fill the various webpages.

Research Ethically

Properly select, acquire and cite resources
(#8) No matter the advances in technology, understanding how to research will always be an essential skill. While research papers used to require several reference books and types of sources, now most research can be done digitally. However, every type of research writing, a paper or presentation, requires proper citations.
