The Treaty of Versailles

  • Germany wasn't ready to end war in 1929 and couldn't end it without violating the rules of the treaty
  • The appeasement policy(allowed Germany to reconstruct)is a reason Germany was in the treaty

The Treaty of Versailles

Japanese Expansion

  • Before WW2 Japan was quickly growing, but they did not have the space or resources to sustain their growing country and began to look for ways to sustain their country.

Japanese Expansion

  • In order to gain more land and natural resources that they needed, Japan made a plan to invade weaker neighbors including Manchuria and China.

Appeasement

  • Appeasement is the policy of meeting demands in order to avoid conflict.
  • It first was associated with Conservative Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.
  • Before WWII, Britain and France both underestimated Adolf Hitler in his lust for conquest.

Appeasement

  • In 1938, Hitler got the Sudeten Nazis to cause trouble, then he demanded union. On September 29th, Britain and France gave the Sudetenland to Germany. They gave the bully what he wanted. This was appeasement
  • People eventually realized that Appeasement would not stop Hitler and that the war was unavoidable.
