The Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was the first crisis in Cuba where Fidel Castro overthrown Fulgencio Batista the corrupt Cuban Dictator in 1959. When Castro got in power, ties were made with the Soviets which resulted in land reforms and the seizing of foreign owned businesses lots of which were American.
Americans were worried with Cuba’s alliance with Soviets so Kennedy made a plan with the Cuban exiles to invade Cuba and cause and uprising against Castro. They were called the La Brigada.
The plan ended horribly with most if not all the soldiers of the La Brigada captured and or killed which made the U.S look weak and disorganized.

The Berlin Wall Goes Up
June 1961 President Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev argued about who would have complete control of Berlin.
When Kennedy refused to give up West Berlin Khrushchev retaliated by building a wall through Berlin, blocking movement between the city and soviet sector and stationing guards along the wall to keep people in.
The Berlin Wall symbolizesd of Cold War divisions.

The Cuban Missile Crisis.
In the Summer of 1962 the Soviets put Long Range nuclear missiles in Cuba as a threat to the U.S.
After some Threats and intense negotiations Kennedy and Khrushchev both didn’t want Nuclear war and after thinking over the consequences of Nuclear War a treaty was made in August 1963 to ban nuclear testing.
But Khrushchev lost power in 1964 to which the Soviets starting to build up arms which the U.S matched in kind.

Assassination of Kennedy
After the treaty was ratified by the senate Kennedy was killed by gunfire on November 22, 1963.
The Assassin Lee Harvey Oswald Amman who spent time the the Soviet Union was also killed himself by a nightclub owner by the name of Jack Ruby.
Theories were speculated about the unanswered questions which included a conspiracy but the Chief of Justice Warren concluded Oswald was the lone assassin.
Kennedy’s death caused world wide grief because he made such a great impression in so little time as president.

My Choice: Aid to other countries.
Kennedy wanted to renew diplomatic focus on Latin America, where governments were often in the hands of the wealthy few and many people lived in extreme poverty.
The Alliance for Progress To improve relations between the United States and Latin America, Kennedy proposed the Alliance for Progress, a series of cooperative aid projects with Latin American governments.
The Peace Corps Another program aimed at helping developing nations fight poverty was the Peace Corps. This program sent Americans to provide humanitarian services in developing nations.
