In Beth's early days as a child she spent it with her parents, younger brother and older cousin. In elementary school and junior high, she was in science fairs that had nothing to do with astronomy. Beth liked science because she was always curious about why something existed or how something worked. She grew up watching Star Trek, Star Wars and other things about space and science.

Beth unexpectedly died at the age of 39 on October 5, 2008 from a pulmonary embolism. This is the year Maia and I were born. A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot that happens in the lungs due to restricted blood flow. It also can decrease oxygen levels and affect other organs as well .

Beth was a great, kind person as people describe her. She loved to work with other people . Beth did many planetarium shows and presentations. She will be missed but not forgotten. This is a memborable picture to remind people that smiling is fun and she was always smiling and happy.

Beth is famous because she was the first african-American woman to get a PhD, which is a person having a doctoral degree.
