CLIMATE

  • Average temperature is below freezing for 6 months out of the year.
  • The winter temperature range is -54 to -1 degrees.
  • The winters are very cold, with lots of snow. The main seasons are summer and winter. Spring and autumn are very short

ANIMALS

  • Most of the animals in this biome are mammals, such as moose, snowshoe hares, arctic fox, arctic wolves, squirrels, ermines, elk, deer, wolverines, moles, lynxes and grizzly bears.
  • There are birds such as eagles, owls, peregrine, falcons, snowy owls and snow geese.
  • In this biome, there are mosquitoes and ants as insects.
  • The adaptions keep them stay warm, and their adaptions also help them hide and self defense. Some of them have their adaptions in order to camouflage themselves.

PLANTS

  • Trees in Taiga are mainly variations of spruce, pine and fur.
  • These plants adopt to harsh weather like icy and snowy winters.
  • Some of them adaption includes their needles. Pines have smooth needles to help keep water inside. The spruce's cone pike shape allows them to shed ice and sleet more efficiently. Berry bushes that thrive in this biome are blueberry, bilberry, and cowberry.
  • Berry bushes are a viral food source for primary consumer mammals, birds and some type of insects.
  • Taiga trees are birch, oak, willow and alder. They live in particularly wet or disturbed areas.

GEOGRAPHY OF TAIGA

  • Taiga biome is lack of nutrients.
  • It has a very thin soil layer which is mostly frosted.
  • Plants are not likely to grow up on this soil, because fallen leaves and moss do not decompose easily. Land is either full of swamp or forests. Also there are mountains as well.

THE UNIQUE FACTORS OF TAIGA

  • Taiga biome is the largest terrestrial biome and extends across Europe, North America and Asia.
  • There is nothing to keep the soil full of nutrients, because evergreen trees do not drop leaves. Thus, there is not much variety in vegetation.
  • Many animals of taiga biome have to migrate to warmer areas or hibernate during the long, cold winters.
  • Although there are not many animals in taiga biome. It inhabits millions of insects. Birds migrate there to feed off these insects every year.

LIVING CONDITIONS FOR HUMANS

  • It would be hard for us to survive in this biome, because the weather conditions are not survivable.
  • If we do not bring any snow coat with us, our body temperature could not adopt to cold weather.
  • The soil is not fertile, thus we cannot grow up any food source.
  • Houses should be heat isolated.
  • Animals in this biome are really dangerous predators.
