Remember - Humanists at the time read classics from antiquity, looked to rhetoric.... knowledge and eloquence.

Radical Reformers

Aside from the Lutherans, there were the radicals who wanted:
To get rid of the Catholic Church
Were bible literalists
Zwinglians for instance.

The Anabaptists - kicked out any who sinned and wouldn't pay taxes, serve in the military no gov positions, were pacifists

Radical Spiritualists - used reason to interpret the Bible. Rejected many long-held Christian beliefs, became the Unitarian movement.

Calvinists
2nd gen
John Calvin clarified the Protestant movement
Fusion of church and state
Predestination
Didn't suffer heretics to his narrow view.

Set up the stage for future conflicts.
