In the article "The New Science of Temptation" by Piercarlb Valdesolo talk about how temptation reveal human's weakness. In today's world, there are different kinds of temptation, but temptations for different people are different as well. For example, some people obsessed with money, but some people are not. "what separates the well-behaved from the poorly-behaved is what kind of temptations you have." (Paragraph 2) Christian believes that temptation comes by human's desire, temptation is what you really want in the bottom of your heart, so your temptation reveal what kind of person you are and what your weakness are.

Temptation also shows your self-control ability, temptation is like a devil that live inside of you, luring you to the impulses. That's when you need to show your self-control ability, do you rather enjoy the short term satisfaction or to achieve your long-term goal. The people who are good at self-regulation more likely to be a successful person, because the people that is always attract by the short-term winning will give up their long term interests, can not do anything well at the last point, they are recklessly, didn't think about the result will bring to them when they doing things.

Usually the decision that you make during your excitement can not lead to a good result, you will probably regret it over time. Just like what happened in the novel, Ethan and his lover are tortured both spiritually and physically for the rest of their life.
