PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHERE I LIVED, AND WHAT I LIVED FOR

"Rout all that was not of life. Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!"
Thoreau's thinking is very simple which is to live life to the fullest meaning to detach all material possessions that bar someone down. Living a simple life will help us alleviate pressure from the material world. We would be much more happy people and enjoy life better according to Thoreau if we only have the necessities of life.

SOLITUDE

“This earth is but a point in space. How far apart the two most distant inhabitants of yonder star?"
Thoreau is saying that we can live our lives to ourselves and not be desperate for human interaction. Thoreau wants us to appreciate all that there is to life. The next human being not on Earth is as far away from you and any other person on the planet.

Full Quote: “This whole earth which we
inhabit is but a point in space. How far apart, think you, dwell the two most distant inhabitants of yonder star”

THE POND IN WINTER

“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads."
Thoreau is talking about the beauty he experiences during winter. This is ironic being that winter is known to be one of the most harsh periods of the year yet Thoreau finds beauty in all things. Thoreau manages to find joy with nature.

SPRING

“The transparent pond already calm and full of hope as in a summer evening”
Thoreau talks about the beauty in a pond. Like the frozen pond, Thoreau discovers joy and happiness in the most basic things in life. These types of things would go unnoticed but with Thoreau's philosophy, one cherishes the many beauties in nature.

CONCLUSION

“There is more day to dawn. The sun is but a morning star. ”
Thoreau compares the sun's dawn to a new beginning in our lives. We must let go of any possessions we cling on to. Detaching from material objects will bring more joy and happiness to our lives.
