Warmup pg. 14

  • Why do you think Humansists focused on Greek and Roman knowledge during the Renaissance? Why do you think they would choose those empires to admire over any other?

What: The Renaissance is known as the "rebirth" of classical knowledge

Why did we need a "rebirth"

  • The Middle Ages were nearly 1,000 years of war, disease, and famine
  • The Hundred Years War 1337-1453
  • The Black Death killed 75 to 200 million people in Europe, peaking in 1346-1353
  • Schism within the Catholic Church over who would be the next Pope

New intellectual and artistic ideas that
developed during the Renaissance
marked the beginning of the Modern World .
