  • Words of advice for driving change and adding value
There was a lot of emphasis on knowing yourself, your own capabilities, and how you fit into your work team. Several speakers suggested taking personality tests like the Myers Briggs test.

No matter your role in the organisation, you can be the one that drives change! Being a self-starter is important - don't wait for someone to ask. Also don't assume things can't be changed for the better - everything can!

Be willing to have a go, willing to admit your mistakes and "back down gracefully" when you're wrong. If things don't happen quickly, be patient and keep pushing. She was also big on kindness and treating staff with respect.

Libraries are becoming more pragmatic and results focused - for staff this means that our value lies in adding value to our organisation. Be amazing!

Her final message was "be humble".

Be interested in everything (tch.pt)

Nathan Connors @thedailyrantaus

Started his keynote address with tch,pt and every person shared their contact details with every other person. Let's try it - just put in your name and Twitter account.

How to know what new tools become available? Twitter is a great source - follow techcrunch etc.

Remember though - human interaction is more important that anything!

"You can do anything, but you can't do everything"

Sue Hutley, director of QUT recommends to under-promise and over-deliver.

Know yourself, be yourself, and allow yourself to be creative. How can you make everyone around you better as well?

Know your organisation's policies - especially HR (how much paid PD? paid leave? unpaid leave?) Look after yourself, your health, your future and your finances

Segue gracefully

Recently she shared a link on Twitter to a strengths challenge (http://strengthschallenge.com) - it involves taking a survey to find your top 5 strengths and then working out strategies to use your strengths in your work. I'm taking the challenge - see my link on Twitter.
