ALEXANDRA

  • Alexandra was the Empress of Russia.
  • She was married to Tsar Nicholas II.
  • She was related to Queen Elizabeth

BLOODY SUNDAY

  • 150-200 men,woman, and children were shot and killed.
  • 450-800 were wounded.
  • This event caused hatred toward Tsar Nicholas.

COMMUNISM

  • Communism took over after the fall of the Tsar Dynasty.
  • Lenin brought the idea of communism after learning Marxism.
  • Main aspects of communism and tsarist rule were the same but also very different.

DUMA

  • The Duma was a legislative assembly in the late Russian Empire.
  • The tsar had complete power over the duma.
  • There were four dumas created and disbanded before the fall of the Russian Empire.

EXECUTION

  • Many people were executed during Nicholas II rule.
  • Many peasants were executed after Bloody Sunday just for being on the street.
  • The royal family was also executed in July 1918.

FAILURE

  • Many people in the royal family felt like failures.
  • Alexandra felt like a failure because she was the cause of Alexei's hemophilia.
  • Nicholas felt he had failed because he lost the Russian empire.

GIBBES

  • He was the royal children's teacher.
  • He claimed the children had no formal teachings.
  • He said the older children were very well mannered.
  • The younger ones were a little more frivolous.

HEMOPHILIA

  • The only son of the Tsar was was diagnosed with hemophilia
  • He got the disease from his mother at birth.
  • He had to be very careful not injure himself .
  • The lack of clotting in the blood would cause him to bleed to death.

INTROVERT

  • Nicholas and Alexandra rarely hosted parties or gathering.
  • They mainly kept to themselves.
  • When in public, they would barely participate in conversation.

JEOPARDY

  • The lifes of many were in jeopardy.
  • Imperial Russia was at stake.
  • Everything in the royal family was about to be lost, even their lifes.

KIND

  • The tsar and his wife, to people that knew them, were kind and generous.
  • They were said to be a happy family.
  • They were very kind and generous to their children.

LENIN

  • He lead the revolution against Tsar Nicholas
  • He Replaced the Russian Empire with the Soviet Union
  • He became mute before his death after having three strokes.

MARX

  • He created marxism.
  • His ideas were used to create the communist government of Russia.
  • He was a very educated man who was the source of Lenin's political knowledge.

NICHOLAS

  • He was the last tsar of Imperial Russia.
  • HIs father didn't prepare him to be tsar.
  • His father didn't think he'd be a good ruler.
  • Nicholas was misunderstood by most people.

OLGA

  • Olga was the first born dutchess.
  • She nursed wounded soldiers until her own nerves gave out.
  • Her official title means "Grand Princess".

PEASANTS

  • Many people were poor in Imperial Russia.
  • They were the main cause of the revolution.
  • They made up most of the population and were treated very badly.

QUIRKY

  • Alexandra was always said to be weird or awkward.
  • She converted from a different faith so the subjects thought she was different.
  • She also had a different sense of style so people thought she was awkward.

RASPUTIN

  • He was a russian peasant.
  • Rasputin claimed to be a mystical healer.
  • Tsar Nicholas thought he could heal Alexei of hemophilia.

ST. PETERSBURG

  • The royal family lived in St. Petersburg.
  • Bloody Sunday took place here in front of Alexander palace.
  • The palace there is now a museum.

TSAR

  • The Tsar was the ruler of Russia before 1917.
  • The Tsar in Russia controlled everything in government.
  • All decision made by the Tsar were final and could not be changed by anyone but himself.
  • The Tsar Dynasty ended with the overthrow and execution of the Romanov family.

UNJUST

  • Some things that were done were unfair.
  • The lower classes were dying because of the government.
  • Many people had very bad living conditions and diseases.

VICTORIA

  • Queen Victoria was Alexandra's grandmother.
  • She taught Alexandra how to rule.
  • She was very close to her grandchildren and family.
  • Alexandra used many of her teachings to help Nicholas rule Russia.
