  • Partcipate/receive communion renews us with Christ's love
  • Become more generous, compassionate, selfless

UNITY WITH CHRIST

  • To receive communion is to receive Christ himself
  • Christ becomes a part of us and we become a part of Him
  • Expands our relationship with Christ
  • "Preserves, increases, and renews life of grace received at Baptism" (CCC 1392)

SEPARATION FROM SIN

  • Eucharist cleanses the soul of venial sins
  • Protects us from future mortal sins, does not forgive past mortal sins
  • Reconciliation required to forgive mortal sins

BECOMING CHURCH

  • Become more united to our brothers and sisters
  • Proclaim Christ to others by participating in mass
  • Donate to churches, animating our families with "spirit of Christ" through actions
  • Evangelization
  • Build community with parish members, strengthen unity with all Christians

TO BE EUCHARIST FOR OTHERS

  • We are called to help the poor
  • We are the bread for others
  • Perform corporal and spiritual works of mercy
  • Mother Theresa is an example of someone who's life was transformed by Eucharist

REQUIREMENTS FOR FORMAL RECEPTION

  • Examine our conscience
  • Receive Eucharist at least once a year, during Easter season
  • Pope Pius X lowered communion age to seven
  • In the past people fasted 1 day before receiving Eucharist
  • Eucharist is an integral part of mass
