This painting is titled Water lilies and the Japanese bridge 1897-99. You can see this painting at the Princeton University Art Museum in New Jersey.

Claude Monet was a French painter who was recognized for the art movement Impressionism. He loved to paint outside and largely focused on the way light affected objects. In 1859 Claude moved to Paris and decided to pursue an art career. In France he studied at the Academie Suisse and also during this time met a close friend Camilla Pissarro. Throughout his career the Impressionist were given a lot of criticism because their artwork was said to be more like sketches and seemed not finished. Monet continued to paint grand masterpieces of his gardens at Giverny, ponds with waterlilies, bridges and he struggled with depression even though he was so successful.

FRENCH POINTILLISM PAINTER DECEMBER 2, 1859- MARCH 29, 1891
This painting is titled Bathers at Asnières, 1884. It is an oil on canvas and you can see it at the National Gallery in London.

George Seurat is remembered for his painting technique called pointillism. He loves to place small dots or strokes of color all over the canvas and when viewed from a distance the image came to life. Like the Impressionist he also loved painting outside and was amazed with scientific theories of color and expressionism.
Seurat went to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts school to study and a large emphasis was placed on drawing and composition. He took an interested in the effects of color, form, and light and like the Impressionist they were occupied with the fleeting moment of their painting subject. Although he left a large body of influential work behind, Seurat died at 31.

PAUL SIGNAC

FRENCH POST-IMPRESSIONIST PAINTER NOVEMBER 11, 1863 - AUGUST 15, 1935
This painting is titled The Port at La Rochelle 1921 and you can find this painting at the Musée D'Orsay in Paris, France.

You might find it interesting that Paul was studying to be an architect in his early career and then changed to painting. In 1884 he met, Claude Monet and George's Seurat and he loved their methods of color and theory.
Many of his paintings have been along Frances coastal waters and this became his subject matter. He became president of the Societe des Artistes Independants from 1908 until his death. He abandoned the short brushstrokes of Impressionism and wanted to experiment with small dots of per color all over the plane. Paul like the artists of Pointillism would not blend the dots on the canvas, but let the viewers eyes blend the colors.
