EARLY LIFE
Born:1303 BC Ancient Egypt
Died:1213 BC
Father:Pharaoh Sethi
Mother:Queen Tuya
Ramses The Great was named after his grandfather Ramses I.
Ramses grew up in the royal court of Egypt.
Ramseses father became pharaoh when Ramses was five.
When Ramseses older brother died that put Ramses next in line to become pharaoh.
3.
PRINCE OF EGYPT
At 15 years of age Ramses was the prince of Egypt.
He got married to his two main wives, Nefertari and Isetnofret.
Nefertari would rule along side Ramses and would become powerful in her own right.
As prince, Ramses joined his father in his military campaigns.
By the age of 22 he started leading battles by himself.
4.
BECOMING PHARAOH
When Ramses was 25 years old Ramses father passed away.
Ramses II was crowned the pharaoh of Egypt in 1279 BC.
He was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth dynasty.
5.
MILITARY LEADER
During Ramses reign he led the Egyptian army against several enemies.
These enemies included the Hittites, Syrians, Libyans, and Nubians.
One of Ramseses most famous battle was the great attack of Kadesh.
In the battle Ramses fought the Hittites.
Ramses established one of the first major peace treaties in history with the Hittites.
6.
DEATH AND TOMB
Ramses II died around the age of 90.
He was buried in the Valley of the Kings.
His mummy was later removed to keep it hidden from thieves.
Today Ramseses mummy is in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
