SLAVE CODES

SUMMARY OF CODE 1

• A slave cannot be on another plantation without the owner's consent or lawful business.

PUNISHMENT & REASON #1

• P- 10 lashes on the slave's bare back
• R- so they can't escape or converse

SUMMARY OF CODE 2

• Cannot carry weapon (defensive or offensive) only tools given by owner for work

PUNISHMENT & REASON #2

• P- gets taken to the Justice of the Peace and can be given up to 39 lashes
• R- retaliation

SUMMARY OF CODE 3

• Slave owners cannot have other slaves on their property for more than 4 hours. And must have less than 5 slaves at all times

PUNISHMENT & REASON #3

• P- $10 for each offense & $10 for every slave over 5
• R- prevent "inconveniences"
