MARFAN SYNDROME

SYMPTOMS

  • Pain Areas: In the back
  • Heart: Mitral valve prolapse or murmur
  • Mouth: Abnormally raised roof of the mouth or crowded teeth
  • Visual: Blurry vision or nearsightedness
  • Chest: Bulging chest or sunken chest

DIAGNOSIS/TREATMENT

  • If your doctor suspects Marfan Syndrome, one of the first tests he or she will recommend is an echocardiogram. This tests uses sound waves to capture real-time images of your heart in motion. It checks the conditions of your heart valves and the size of your aorta.
  • Treatment Varies on how bad it is.
  • Devices: Back Brace, Glasses, and Contact lenses.
  • Medications: Beta Blocker and Antihypertensive drug
  • Surgery: Vitrectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm repair, Heart Valve repair, and Vascular Grafting
  • Or Finally you can go see a specialists like a Orthopedic Surgeon, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Pediatrician, or a Primary Care Provider (PCP)

WHO GET'S MARFAN Syndrome?

  • It usually passes from parent to child through the genes, but may result from a new gene mutation.
  • People who usually get Marfan Syndrome are tall and thin with long arms, legs, fingers, and toes.
