WHAT MAKES a SMILE?

We are first graders at Seven Hills Elementary. We took on the role of Sociologists to study student and staff behavior.

Our focus?

Happiness.

What makes someone happy? What makes them smile?

We used our findings to make small changes and ended up making a big impact on school morale.

Gather data

We conducted interviews. Lots of them!
We asked students and teachers one question: "What is one thing that makes you smile?"

Compile data

We put all of our results together.

TOP 6

We added Mr. Twa as a choice because he makes students smile every day!

STEP 3

Gather more data

We took the top six choices and conducted even more interviews until we had narrowed down the top three.

Now what?

We knew what made our school happy. Now we had to figure out how to give it to them.

We wanted to give everybody chocolate but we found out that we couldn't give it to students. But we could give it to...

Since we couldn't give everyone their own animals or Mr. Twa we decided to make posters!

We asked the students to write their name on the posters if the pictures made them smile.

All the posters we put up had tons of names written on them!

This told us that our posters made a lot of people smile. :)

We made a small change by adding posters to the hallways. We learned that small changes make a big difference!
