PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MY TOWN, MY HOME

Evan Newlund, Hour 2

"Children! Children! Time to get up"(12).
I chose this quote because I can empathize with frustrating my parents and myself with my inability to get going in the morning. Rather then choose my bed however, I chose to take a picture of my door because passing through that door is what actually makes it feel like a school day for me.

"I washed and ironed the blue gingham for you special...Every day I go to school dressed like a sick turkey"(14).
I chose this quote because I understand how it is not only to be uncertain about what to wear each day but also about being ungrateful to my parents, something I strive not to do.

"This town's gettin' bigger every year"(10).
This meaning of the "town" is my school. There are so many people and the hallways are so busy. I can empathize with the feeling that you are part of something big, it is humbling but also exiting, and it makes quiet moments in your "town" all the more precious. (Just like in the photo where there are few people around).

"Choose the least important day of your life. It will be important enough"(100).

I chose this picture because to me it represents peacefulness. I am never more at peace than when I am reading a book at night in a quiet house, and yet it isn't a big exiting thing. I take it for granted and yet, if I were to die like Emily, these quiet nights would be one of the things I would miss the most.

"Only it seems to. E that once in your life before you die you ought to see a country where they don't speak English and don't even want to"(21).

This picture isn't from outside the US obviously, but it's the most exotic place I've visited. I've always wanted to travel outside the country, but I never have, and pictures like these are the best I've got. So I chose to use this photo as a contrast to the quote.

"All that can happen in a thousand days"(47).

I chose this picture as a start to an ordinary day. To me this quote was about how we take our many days for granted, and we never know when something big will happen in one of them. So this is a start to just one day out of a million.

We're more civilized now,-so they say"(77).

This quote reminded me of the rowdiness and anger with which supposedly civilized people have. It reminds me specifically of my Chinese class in which we talk constantly and don't listen. Even though we are supposed to be "civilized" students, we act like animals.

"I don't want to grow old. Why's everybody pushing me so"(77)?

I chose this picture because my parents really want me to get a job to pay for a car and insurance. While I don't really dislike the idea, it represents more responsibly being given to me.

"And look, there's the old white fence that used to around your house. Oh, I'd forgotten that! Oh, I love is so"(101)!

Much like Emily had forgotten the old white fence, I forget about the beautiful tree that used to be in our yard unless someone brings it up. I have fond memories of climbing the tree and yet, after it was cut down, I stopped remembering it.
