ABBASID CALIPHATE

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

  • It was considered the “ Islamic Golden Age”
  • It was one of three great Muslim empires
  • The capital moved from Damascus to Baghdad.

THE RISE

  • This dynasty came into power in 750 C.E
  • They over took the Umayyad Caliphate and in result built their empire off of the Umayyads

RELEVANT CALIPHS & THE YEARS

  • Al-Mandi (775-785 C.E)- failed to convert the Shi’a to Islam
  • al- ma’mun ( 813-833)- fully established the Abbasid court (which was a place for learning)
  • Harun Al-Rashid ( 786-809)- Was considered the greatest leader of Abbasid Caliphate

As small businesses and the government progressed, unique products were designed that were special to their culture.
