FIRST AID

  • FIRST AID: IMMEDIATE CARE GIVEN TO ILL OR INJURED PERSON
  • Three C's of first aid; check, call, care
  • Check on the victim, call 911, and care for the victim
  • Good Samaritian laws protect resucers from being sued for giving emergency care

CPR AND FIRST AID FOR SHOCK AND CHOCKING

  • The chain of survival is a sequence of actions that maximize the chance of survival
  • These steps are call medical services, CPR, defibrillation, advanced care
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation combines rescue breathing and chest compressions
  • Rescue breathing won't help if somebody is choking it is important to know specific procudures
  • Shock is a condition in which the heart is not delivering enough blood to the body

RESPONDING TO OTHER COMMON EMERGENCIES

  • Joint and muscle injuries, fractures, unconsciousness, fainting, concussions
  • Animal bites, nosebleeds, and poisoning are other common injuries
  • Each of these of unique ways to be treated and cared for

BRAIN INJURIES

  • Unconsciousness, fainting, amd concussions are examples of brain injuries
  • If somebody is unconscious call 911, check breathing, and be ready to do CPR
  • If sombody faints try to catch them, then lay them on the ground with their feet up
  • If somebody has a concussion have them lay down and call 911 right away

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

  • During serve storms, watches and warnings will occur to alert you

BEING PREPARED

  • It is a smart idea to have a emergency survival kit in case of an emergency
  • A survival kit is a set of items that may be needed in an emergency
  • This could include: food and water, battery powered radio, extra clothes, sleeping bags
  • First aid supplies, duct tape, copies of important documents, money, flashlight, extra batteries
