SURG TECH

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work under the supervision of a surgeon
• Ensure that the operating room environment is safe
• Prepare operating rooms for surgery
• Sterilize and supply equipment
• Prepare patients for surgery

EDUCATION

• Complete a diploma, certificate or associates degree program
• Pass CAAHEP-approved program
• Pass the certifying exam (CST)
• High school diploma or GED required

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

• Work quickly and accurately
• Have a commitment to detail
• Have a strong sense of responsibility
• Manual dexterity
• Physical stamina

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Brightly lit, temperature controlled
• Standing for extended periods of time
• Exposed to unpleasant sights, odors, and hazardous material
• Be available on short notice in case of emergency
• Attention must be focused
