The caterpillar will attach itself to a stem or a leaf using silk and make a chrysalis. The caterpillar spends 10 days in the chrysalis and although from the outside it looks like not much is changing, on the inside the caterpillar is changing rapidly.

In the chrysalis the caterpillar is undergoing a remarkable transformation, called metamorphosis, to become a beautiful butterfly. The monarch butterfly will emerge from the pupa and fly away, feeding on flowers and just enjoying it's short, two to six weeks life.
