PRESENTATION OUTLINE
CLASIC PLAYS IN MODERN MOVIES
Warm Bodies (2013)
A terrible plague has left the planet's population divided between zombies and humans. An unusual zombie named R sees his walking‑dead brethren attacking a living woman named Julie and rescues her. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and the pair embark on an unusual relationship. This movie was based off of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet"
HOW ARE THE TWO SIMILAR?
- The two main characters are from two different divided sides of the setting. (Humans & Zombies; Montague's & Capulets)
- The names of the two main characters are EXTREMELY similar. (Julie vs. Juliet; R vs. Romeo)
- When they fall in love, their opposing sides try to stop it.
HOW ARE THE TWO DIFFERENT?
- The main male character in WB is dead, the one in R&J is alive.
- Instead of opposing families (R& J) it's opposing races (WB)
- The two main characters don't die like in R&J.
- In WB, the zombies and humans work together during the movie, and the Montague's and Capulets do not do that.
Just One of the Guys (1985)
When Terry Griffith loses her high school's writing competition, she's convinced that it's because she's a girl. So Terry decides to change high schools & pose as a boy to prove her point. Her brother, Buddy, helps her pass as a guy so well that she is soon making friends with the boys at school, including the attractive Rick, who becomes her new best friend. But her gender-swapping makes things difficult when she falls in love with him. This movie was based off of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night"
HOW ARE THE TWO SIMILAR?
- The main female heroin pretends to be a boy to get something they want.
- The main female heroin also falls in love with a guy who thinks they are a guy (which is really confusing)
- As they pretend to be a boy, another girl gets a crush on them, which makes them feel very awkward.
- The two main female characters have a brother
HOW ARE THE TWO DIFFERENT?
- For JOOTG, Terry lost a writing competition which prompts her to pretend to be a boy, but for TN, Viola just survived a ship wreck and wants to serve for Lady Olivia, which prompts her to pretend to be a boy.
- Viola's brother is her twin, and Terry's brother is just her younger sibling.
- The man Viola falls in love with is extremely wealthy and royal, and the man Terry falls in love with is just an average high schooler.
- The background of the two main female heroines are completely different.
The Lion King (1994)

But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa. This movie was based of off Shakespeare's "Hamlet"
HOW ARE THE TWO SIMILAR?
- Both of the main male characters (Hamlet and Simba) have a deceased father who was murdered by their uncle/ their fathers brother, which is the main problem in the story.

- The Uncle of the play/film is the main antagonist/evil being.
