PRESENTATION OUTLINE

GLOBAL WARMING

By Jaden Volz

INTRODUCTION

  • My topic is global warming
  • The fact is that global warming is a serious issue and needs to be addressed before it's too late

BACKGROUND

  • Global warming truly started during an era known as the industrial revolution which took place during the 18th century or the 1700's
  • Scientists didn't discover that global warming was an issue until shorty after WWII
  • Global warming occurs because of the large amount of Co2 in the atmosphere, this is a problem because this gas along with other gasses (greenhouse gases) in the atmosphere are trapping all the heat and radiation that comes from the sun
  • Life can be affected by this radiation

THE OZONE

  • The ozone is a layer of our atmosphere, it is probably the most important layer
  • It is important because it acts as a shield to a lot of the heat and radiation that comes from the sun
  • Because of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere the ozone is deteriorating or disintegrating which is causing more radiation and heat to come into the atmosphere
  • The gasses are also acting as a reversed ozone layer, instead of keeping the heat out it is keeping it in

CLIMATE CHANGE

  • Because of the increase in heat due to greenhouse gases the climate will change dramatically
  • There will be a massive rise in sea levels up to about 13 inches. Now that doesn't sound like a lot, but that's huge. That much sea level rise would flood entire continents wiping out anything in it's path
  • Planetary temperature rise could also shift the currents in the ocean, that would totally destroy the entirety of every ecosystem in every ocean all over the planet
  • And finally it would increase the power of severe weather by ten times, hurricanes would reduce entire cities like New York to rubble with ease

THE OTHER SIDE

  • Every year the world pumps about 5 billion tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere
  • This amount of greenhouse gases has literally ripped clean holes in the ozone, such as the giant one over Antarctica
  • Scientists also are already seeing small currents in the ocean shifting which has hurt smaller ecosystems
  • People have already experienced more powerful storms, like Katrina or Sandy, research that was done on these storms proved that if the ocean temperature was as cool as it was 40 years ago those storms wouldn't have been as bad

MY SIDE

  • Despite many people giving up , we do not have to just accept our end and give up
  • The U.S. pledges to reduce carbon emissions by one third by 2020, they also have created mass solar and wind farms that could power 9 cities as large as New York
  • If our country starts taking action towards global warming we hope other countries will follow our lead and some already are. If we can get the whole world on board we can beat global warming

MAKE A DIFFERENCE EVERY DAY

  • Being one person you might think that you can't do much, but you really can
  • Global Warming is a serious problem to our planet, it is important that we take action against it or our world will fall into destruction
  • Every day think of the earth, inform others on how they can help, try and use cars less and if it's not needed don't use so much heat or electricity
  • These little things don't seem very significant, but if enough people know how to help we can beat global warming and save the world
