  • Brown v Board of Education
  • Made segregation illegal.

1955

  • Brown II
  • Made integration sooner.

1956

  • 27 African Americans attempted to attend a white school in Little Rock.
  • Told to attend a nearby black school.
  • Aaron v Cooper (another case to end segregation in schools)

1957

  • Arkansas State Legislature approved four segregation bills.
  • Created the State Sovereignty Committee.
  • The Capital Citizens Council issued a statement that supported segregation.

1957 CONT.

  • Gov. Faubus ordered Arkansas National Guard to prevent African Americans from entering Little Rock Central High School.
  • September 23-they entered the school.

1958

  • Five bomb threats received in a seven day period (January)
