Chinese New Year

  • typically celebrated anywhere from January 21nd to February 20th depending on the year
  • Families get together and celebrate
  • Decorate streets and buildings with lucky red items
  • Set off firecrackers
  • Eat dumplings, fish, spring rolls, and niango

LANTERN FESTIVAL

  • Celebrated on the 15th day of the first Chinese lunar month and on the first full moon on the Chinese calender
  • Light lanterns & watch lanterns of different shapes and sizes
  • Eat Tangyuan

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

  • Always on the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese lunar calendar
  • Race dragon boats to remember the famous poet that drowned after writing a poem about China being taken over
  • Eat zongzi

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

  • Eat moon cakes
  • Gaze at the moon
  • Celebrated in mid autumn

WINTER SOLSTICE

  • Celebrated around December 21st, when the sun is at longitude 270°
  • Marks the longest night and the shortest day
  • People usually have a family reunion over the long night
  • Eat pink and white Tangyuan in sweet broth to symbolize family unity
