English 1: Reading / Writing 

Why STAAR?

  • Part of the Texas graduation requirements.
  • A measure of college readiness.

When?

  • March 29th
  • 5 hours
  • Retakes in Summer and Winter.

The Breakdown

  • 2 Parts: Reading and Writing
  • 50 Multiple Choice, 2 Short Answers, and 1 Essay

The Math of Scoring

  • Number of M.C items correct + (SAR score #1 x 3) + (SAR score #2 x 3) + (essay score x 3)

  • At least score: Level 2 Satisfactory = Raw Score 49
  • Better to produce Raw Score = 53 or above

  • At least 70% of Multiple-choice correct
  • At least a score of 2 on each short answer
  • At least a score of 3 on the essay
  • Raw Score = 56!
