"Inch by inch the billowing flames devoured the supplies and the shelter." (30)This = anger because the fire is like his anger. He had to keep it controlled but he didn't and his anger got out of control, like the fire.

Water:calm
"When I was banished to this island, I came to this pond to get rid of my anger." (145)This = calm because your anger goes away, so without anger you are calm.
