Present Perfect

The present perfect is a combination of the present tense and the perfect aspect that is used to express a past event that has present consequences.

To form the present perfect, the auxiliary verb "to have" is used in the present and the past participle of the verb.

In affirmative sentences

  • Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to have) + participio pasado

Example:

  • I have talked to Chloe (He hablado con Chloe)
  • They have learned English.(Han aprendido inglés.)
  • She has gone to work.(Ella a ido a su trabajo.)

Negative

  • Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to have) + “not” + participio pasado.

Example:

  • haven’t talked to Chloe.(No he hablado con Chloe.)
  • They haven’t learned English.(No han aprendido inglés.)
  • She hasn’t gone to work.(Ella no ha ido a su trabajo.)

Interrogative Sentences

  • verbo auxiliar (to have) + sujeto + participio pasado…?

Example:

  • Have you talked to Chloe?(¿Has hablado con Chloe?)
  • Has she gone to work?(¿Ella ha ido a su trabajo?)
  • Have they learned English?(¿Han aprendido inglés?)
