  • SOLVE PROBLEMS
  • ADD VALUE

1. Entrepreneurship is for everyone!

- There are so many jobs that need to be done in order to innovate, everyone is valuable.

- Don’t limit yourself. You’re an artist, but you can go outside of the fine arts field. Create your own opportunities!

- Artists are often defensive about what they do. But, people are often inspired by artists. Look at all the wealthy people who donate to arts organizations (ENTREPRENEURIAL arts organizations)

In any major, people close themselves off to doing just one thing. Accounting majors might sink too far into accounting to collaborate outside, or ballet dancers might pigeonhole themselves into just being a performer. You can use your skills outside of your major!

Don't Limit Yourself!

Discussion Time

How has Entrepreneurship played a part in your arts education?

2. Entrepreneurship is Crucial

Collaboration!

Entrepreneurial skills can help connect people from all disciplines within the art community. Collaboration allows you to gain skills and perspectives you wouldn’t necessarily be able to get within your own discipline. Collaboration can happen across colleges and careers! (SHANNON TALKS ABOUT EXPERIENCE)
Collaboration leads to inspiration!

It opens so many doors, and shows you commonalities between people you’d never have thought would be a collaborator. Collaboration with others can help you create better art than you would have created in the first place.

Perspective!

You might be working with someone who you will later insult with a piece of art. How do you respectfully disagree, maintain a healthy relationship with that person, and still maintain the integrity of your art? A variety of perspectives, gained working within and without the artist community, can provide you with insight. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. You have your niche as an artist; how can you use that to contribute to society, and become an entrepreneur?

Independence!

You can choose what you want to do. There soooo much freedom in being an entrepreneur, it can seem daunting. How can you identify what you love about your art form, and use that in the entrepreneurial field?

Use your entrepreneurial skills to create opportunities for yourself to show your art.

How can you set personal goals, identify what fuels your passion, and make a living for yourself doing that? As artists, many of you have found your passion, found that feeling of fulfilment and drive that fuels your art.

Harness that passion, and change the world as an entrepreneur!

Discussion Time

How do you see yourself using your entrepreneurial skills in your future as an artist?
