Communicable Diseases

Untitled Slide

  • Infectious- disorders caused by organisms that can be passed on to someone else.
  • Noninfectious- medical condition or disease that cannot be passed on.
  • Acute- sudden symptoms, short length of time, or both.
  • Chronic- present continuously on and off over a long period of time

Differences
Infectious is more serious than noninfectious and chronic is more serious than acute. A cold can be acute and infectious.

Symptoms of someone who is sick are different depending on what illness they have. Symptoms are a physical or mental indication of a disease. Examples: headache, fever, runny/stuffy nose, stomach/muscle aches are most common.

One way for infectious diseases to spread is through direct contact of bacteria, viruses, or other germs. Another way is through indirect contact such as sneezing and coughing.
