HOW WOMEN GOT SO POWERFUL
Before the 1950’s women had little to no rights and were treated like servants, until we rose above.
NAWSA ( National American Women Suffrage Association ) they got women to vote in1890.
The women’s lib movement in the 1960 -1970’s and 1980’s was part of the continuation of the early work of the suffragists.
NOW (National Organization for Women) was started by Betty Friedan and Pauli Murray in 1966.
The Equal Pay Act, to guarantee that men and women were paid equally, was passed in1963
“The Feminine Mystique”, written in 1963,encourages women to get jobs.
2 million Canadian women represented the Royal Commission in 1966
Husbands controlled their wives’ lives. They controlled their sex life; if the husband wanted to have sex they had sex, and if he wanted a baby, she was having a baby. The wives had no choice.
Employment of married women in public service began in1955.
The fight for women’s rights are still going on today.
