Who Is My Explorer?
Leif Eriksson was born in 980 AD and lived till1025.
Leif was born in Iceland.
His dad was Erik the Red.
Leif never learned to read or write.
Erik the Red was banished to Greenland in 985 and Leif and his mother joined him one year later.
Erik the Red was the Chieftain of this new settlement in Greenland.
Leif learned to hunt, fish, build, farm and sail.
After Leif did his exploring and after his father died, he became the Chief of the settlement that his dad had ruled.

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?
Leif found Vinland (Newfoundland), Hellaland (Baffin Islands) and Markland (Labrador).
He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean
He was inspired by Bjarni Herjolfson who was an explorer that Leif admired.
Greenland was getting crowded so Leif wanted to find a less crowded place to live.
He built a settlement in Vinland and lived there for one year.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR EXPLORER AND HIS DISCOVERIES?
I think Leif was adventurous for finding new lands.
